The LSAMP program is an alliance-based program to assist universities and colleges in strengthening the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) innovation and workforce in the United States by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations in these disciplines.
The LSAMP program takes a comprehensive approach to student development, retention, graduation, and career development. Particular emphasis is placed on transforming undergraduate STEM education through innovative, evidence-based strategies, and relevant educational and research experiences.
The LSAMP program also supports knowledge generation, knowledge utilization, assessment of program impacts and dissemination activities.

Ultimately, the LSAMP program results in the strengthening of the US STEM enterprise to enable innovation in addressing the most challenging issues faced in the US and the world, novel business opportunities, and enhanced US national security. As such the program has been exceptionally impactful over the years.
