Grade Point Average (GPA)

A grading scale used in the USA to measure academic achievement, most often on a 4.0 scale. Calculated by the weighted average of assigned point value for letter grades and class instruction time/credit/units.

Example: a grade of A (4 points) in a 3-credit class and C (2 points) in a 4-credit will yield a GPA of 2.86 by the calculation: [3x(A)+4x(C)]/7=[3x(4)+4x(2)]/7=2.86
